TOT Neck Collar

Designed especially for the treatment of congenital muscular torticollis, the EOS collar is a simple and effective therapeutic product, which maintains a correct head position, preventing future problems.

It is normally used in cases of torticollis in children, but can also be used in adults.

Congenital muscular torticollis normally appears in the first six to eight weeks of a baby's life, and is characterized by a contracture of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, which causes lateral flexion of the head and an elevation of the shoulder opposite to the affected one, in certain cases which can lead to plageocephaly. or high thoracic scoliosis.

The use of a neck brace is the conservative treatment of babies with congenital muscular torticollis, over 4 months of age and who exhibit a consistent head tilt of 5 degrees or more. The child must have adequate ROM (range of motion) and a lateral head straightening reaction (head control and strength) to lift the head from the side of the collar.

A ring of soft PVC pipe is connected by two short nylon tubes. The collar includes different sizes of tubes. These tubes are placed anterior and posterior to the crest of the trapezius. The PVC pipe is secured with a connecting strap. A spare velcro strap is included.

The collar is pre-assembled and ready to use.

There are two sizes: adult and child. The transparent PVC tube for the collar is supplied twice the circumference of the neck, (extra 10 to 15cm). The tube is connected with an end connector.

Indications: Conservative treatment of congenital muscular torticollis.

How It Works and Indications for Use

The TOT Collar™ is designed to provide a noxious stimulus to the side of the skull. The user moves away from this stimulus towards a new corrected central position. Adopting a new normal head position provides the ability to redefine the perception of horizontal and thus maintain the corrected head position.

The use of the TOT Collar is added to the conservative treatment of babies with congenital muscular torticollis if they are 4 months of age or older and have a constant head tilt of 5 degrees or more. The baby must have adequate ROM (range of movement) and lateral head direction reaction (head control and strength) to move the head away from the Collar.

A loop of soft PVC pipe is connected by two short nylon tubes. Tubes of varying sizes are supplied with the Collar. These tubes are positioned anterior and posterior to the crest of the trapezius. The PVC pipe is fixed with a connecting strap.

The TOT Collar™ is non-toxic and washable.

Adjustment Instructions

The TOT Collar is already pre-assembled and ready to adjust. There are two sizes: Adult and Child. The Collar's clear PVC tube is supplied twice the circumference of the neck, plus 10-15 cm. The tube is joined with an end connector.

White tubes or risers are selected according to the amount of lateral head tilt. Extra tubes are supplied with the TOT Collar to allow for changing the lateral tilt.

Tube A extends from the back to the crest of the trapezius to the occiput.

Tube B runs from the anterior part of the crest of the trapezius to below the tip of the mastoid process. Avoid putting pressure on the jaw.

The tubes are short at first and are replaced with longer tubes as correction is achieved. If there is a significant slope, use very short tubes initially. Tubes can be cut to the exact length required.

For the correct fit, the baby should hold the head in the midline, slightly away from the straps, and there should be room for at least an adult finger between the top of the clear PVC tube and the neck.

Adjust the Collar loosely initially and make sure the side tubes are the correct length and on the correct side. Adjust the Collar manually to check the fit.

Remove the baby's Necklace. Pull the clear PVC tube to remove excess. Cut this tube to length with scissors and reconnect with the end connector. Replace the Collar after each cut to check the fit.

Composition: Soft PVC tube joined by two nylon supports, velcro closure. Non-toxic and washable.
